Redesign Challenges and Objectives

      The redesign of this instant messaging application faced multiple challenges, including a complete UI overhaul, a brand transformation, a rebranding with a new app name, and the need to enhance the overall user experience (UX). One of the most critical issues was that the interface was not pixel-perfect, resulting in oversized banners that cluttered the screen and made it difficult for users to focus on essential content, such as their contact list.  

      Additionally, stakeholders requested a color scheme change from blue to orange, which required updating the logo and visual identity, as well as renaming the app to align with the platform’s new direction. Beyond aesthetics, the app also had to transition from an internal corporate communication tool to a consumer-friendly messaging platform, demanding a modern and intuitive interface.  

      The primary goal of the redesign was to improve usability, optimize the information hierarchy, and create a visually appealing and engaging experience to attract a broader audience. At the same time, renaming the app was a key part of the rebranding strategy, ensuring a refreshed identity that resonates better with the market and enhances brand recognition.

Role and Design Process

      As the sole UX/UI designer in a small team consisting of a graphic designer and a mobile developer, I had to manage multiple responsibilities to ensure the final product was both visually compelling and functionally effective.  

      The design process began with gathering requirements from the project manager, followed by defining core features and conducting competitive research to analyze similar applications and identify best practices. During the design phase, I focused on creating a clean and structured UI with pixel-perfect precision to enhance readability and accessibility.  

       As the application continuously expanded with new features, I prioritized organizing design files systematically to ensure clarity and ease of use for both the team and end users. Additionally, I structured design documentation to be intuitive and easily navigable, enabling seamless collaboration among the project manager, mobile developer, and graphic designer. This approach minimized confusion, improved workflow efficiency, and ensured smooth handoffs between design and development.  

        Managing tight deadlines was a significant challenge, but by leveraging Jira for task management, I ensured timely completion of work while maintaining high design standards. Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with the project manager and developer, iterating on designs based on feedback until we achieved the final polished version.

Solutions and Improvements

      To address the app’s existing limitations and enhance user experience, several strategic design improvements were introduced. A modernized UI was implemented, incorporating a refined orange color scheme that was visually appealing yet easy on the eyes. The design process followed User-Centered Design (UCD) principles, ensuring that every decision was based on real user needs. Functionality-wise, the cloud storage feature (My Cloud) was expanded, offering 20MB of free storage, with plans for premium subscription packages in the future. Other key enhancements included the addition of a community forum, allowing users to engage in discussions, and the PEEP OA (Official Account), which provided an official channel for news updates and event registrations, such as the Mono 29 Countdown Pattaya 2025. Furthermore, a Peep Calendar was integrated, enabling users to organize their schedules with the help of Peep Bot notifications. These improvements not only solved previous usability issues but also made the app more feature-rich, competitive, and appealing to a broader audience.

Proposed solution to the problem

      To enhance user experience and increase the app’s competitiveness, the team conducted research across multiple sources and developed a new concept, drafted under the name “Malibot,” inspired by Jasmine (the company name), reflecting both uniqueness and the business's identity.

       Malibot was designed as an intelligent assistant, integrating new features within the chat environment to improve functionality.
Key features include:

 

  • Personal Assistant – A personal assistant that provides recommendations, manages schedules, and plans personal activities, helping users organize their daily lives more efficiently

  • AI Scheduling – A feature that allows users to schedule appointments and send reminders within group or direct chats, ensuring no important meetings are missed.

  • AI Document – A feature that streamlines collaborative work on documents, allowing users to access and edit files directly within a group chat.
     

  • AI Quick Message – A feature that suggests appropriate responses or quick messages to send back, saving time and facilitating faster communication.

  • AI Bill – A feature that assists with bill collection. Users can simply take a photo of a receipt, send it in the chat, and mention the AI, which will automatically process the bill.


      These features not only enhance convenience for users but also improve the efficiency of collaboration within the chat, addressing both the need for speed and seamless communication. Ultimately, these updates are designed to provide a more comprehensive and satisfying user experience.

Impact and Key Takeaways

     The redesign of this application has had a positive impact on both business objectives and user satisfaction. From a business perspective, the improvements have introduced a new revenue stream through cloud storage subscriptions, increased user engagement, and significantly expanded the app’s market reach. From a user perspective, the enhancements not only eliminated storage limitations but also made the app more organized and efficient, resulting in a smoother and more satisfying messaging experience.  

      This project was an invaluable learning opportunity, especially in managing a UX/UI project independently while balancing both creative and technical responsibilities. It also emphasized the importance of effective communication across teams, ensuring seamless collaboration between developers and stakeholders. Additionally, I gained significant experience in organizing files and workflows efficiently, making it easier for future designers and developers to understand and build upon the work.  

      Ultimately, the redesign transformed the app from a basic corporate communication tool into a fully functional, consumer-friendly messaging platform. This change not only improved the app's competitiveness but also created a memorable user experience that attracted a broader audience and successfully aligned with both business goals and user needs.

AI Translate feature

       Since languages are diverse and their usage varies across different contexts, direct translation may sometimes lead to misunderstandings in communication. This feature can translate up to 20 languages, utilizing AI to analyze and translate effectively, ensuring smooth communication.

      In the sending process, after typing a message, you can press the translate button. The translated message will be displayed along with the original text, allowing you to review and send it.

      In the receiving process, if you want to translate a message from your conversation partner, you can press the "Translate by AI" button. The translated message will then be displayed.

      Users can enable or disable the translation feature as needed through the settings menu or a toggle button within the application. When enabled, the system will provide options to translate messages in both sending and receiving processes. However, if disabled, all messages will be displayed in their original language without automatic translation, allowing users the freedom to choose their preferred communication method.

My Cloud Feature

        Due to the common issue where users of other instant messaging apps run out of storage and have to delete files to free up space, this feature is designed to provide 20GB of free cloud storage. If users need additional storage, they can purchase upgrade packages as needed.

Calendar Feature

     This feature helps organize class schedules, work plans, and daily life by allowing users to create multiple calendar types, such as a personal calendar, family calendar, and work calendar. Additionally, users can express their daily emotions through the calendar. When an appointment date arrives, a message will be sent to the chat.
